about

Cliff Rich Jung would bump into me regularly back in the day. Us old punks always seem to know how to bump into one another. After all these years it has been quite the pleaser to see him get serious about his words. The stories are a translucent poetic gush of what went down. Eventually he'll get his book finished, I got to illustrate the cover! It's called S.S. idiot.

Cliff Rich Jung - Reading and Cell Phone Recording

*Cliff Rich Jung (his friends call him Rich) is a writer of (what he feels most comfy callin') shmoetry, scrawl, stories, "inner gut vision (Papa Buk)," ghosts, songs (of -mostly- gospel progressive punk rock & roll), who is from San Jose, Ca. But currently resides in Santa Cruz, Ca. (his 2nd favorite place he's lived. 1st being Polson, Montana)
He dropped out of high school (last one, out of 4) Junior year, after an epic fist fight with a guy that everyone (including Cliff) thought was going to pummel him. Cliff, out of pure terror, and great reflexes, ended up the victor in this battle. But, alas, was expelled from school. And standing in the sunlight of that momentous day, he decided, right then and there, he was done with school.
He obtained his GED in his early twenties, after his mother said she'd pay him 100 dollars, if he'd pass it.
He has been said (on various tests) to have "college level reading and writing skills. And & 7th grade math skills.." Something like that.
Cliff officially became a writer when a teacher in high school (Ms. or Mrs. (??) Lugo) took him aside after class one day, and told him he had "A gift." And to "Keep it up. Keep on writing." Again, something like that.
Cliff also has some college, around a year, involving drug and alcohol studies.
He dropped out of that too.
Although he has years of -unofficial- drug and alcohol study in "the field."
And a lot of his material comes from that study (Jails, prisons, institutions, rehabs, and near death experiences, to name a few).
*Cliff is currently working on, finishing, a novel about his experiences freight train hopping, and hitchhiking, across the United States, in his late twenties, back in the late 90's, titled "s.s. idiot." He has been working on it for around 5 years, and hopes to be all done soon (on final read through, light polish, now).
*Notable accolades: A woman calling herself "Mama," at a poetry reading open mic, approached (accosted) Cliff once, after he read,, asking him why he thought it was OK to read "borderline pornography" in front of people. While yes, it stung a bit, as she obviously did not approve of Cliff and his material, it was also an indicator to him that he was indeed telling his truth... And the story he read did involve sex...sooooooo...
Another man, at same open mic reading, approached Cliff, and vigorously shook his hand, smiling, laughing, and thanking him for what he read. And Cliff had noticed no other reaction from this man, quite like the one he recieved, throughout the reading.
Cliff was also told by a fellow writer, and comrade, that his writing made him "want to quit writing, it's so good."
And another great writer/crony, once told Cliff that reading his stuff was "the only true addiction I (he) had ever had." Yes, he was drunk. But he's pretty much always drunk. and you know what they say, it's like a truth serum...
